What Does the IT World Actually Look Like?

IT world is interesting not only for tech guys

What does an IT career really look like — and is it as accessible as everyone claims? These were the questions on the table at our latest ESN UWB Pilsen workshop, Mapa IT Světa (Map of the IT World), led by Honza Vandlíček and Honza Rychlík from Zephyron Tech.

From Salaries to Architecture — All in One Session

The workshop kicked off with something that gets everyone's attention: money. Participants got a look at average monthly salaries for mid-level IT roles in the Czech Republic in 2026, ranging from 90,000 CZK for QA testers all the way up to 180,000 CZK for software architects. The message was clear — IT pays, and it pays well.

But the session wasn't just about numbers. The presenters walked the room through the full landscape of IT careers, showing how different paths — from developer to data analyst to DevOps — branch off from a common starting point and lead to very different peaks. Think of it as a mountain trail map for your professional life.

Speaking the Language

One of the most practical parts of the workshop focused on programming languages — both what's talked about in academia and what employers actually want. Spoiler: Python dominates both lists, but JavaScript, Java, and TypeScript are the real workhorses of the job market.

How an App Actually Works

The highlight for many was a clear breakdown of how a real application is built — frontend (Next.js), middleware (Python), and backend (Java) — illustrated with a live demo of a receipt-splitting app built by Zephyron Tech. Seeing actual code and a working product made abstract concepts click in a way slides alone never could.

The Key Takeaway

The best way to learn IT is to actually build something. The presenters made it clear that knowledge only sticks when you put it into practice — a message that resonated with everyone in the room.
